September 27, 2017
The 23rd annual Asifas Tehillim for children took place at the Bobover beis medrash in Boro Park on Tuesday, 6 Tishrei/Sept. 26. The children, who represented a variety of New York-area yeshivos, were joined by many Admorim, Roshei Yeshivah, Rabbanim and askanim.
Held annually during Aseres Yemei Teshuvah, the gathering is coordinated by Misaskim, known for its outstanding work in providing support and assistance with compassion and professionalism to those facing crisis or tragedy, R"l
The asifah began with the recital of pirkei Tehillim led by Harav Moshe Tuvia Lieff, Rav of Agudas Yisroel Bais Binyamin. Minchah was led by Harav Leibush Rubin, Glogover Rav and Menahel of Spinka Yeshivah. Harav Yitzchak Isaac Tirnauer, Rav, Khal Shomrei Shabbos, led Avinu Malkeinu, which was followed by the piyut of the Yud Gimmel Middos Harachamim led by Harav Yechezkel Roth, shlita, Karlsburger Rav, and Kabbalas Ol Malchus Shamayim led by Harav Mattisyahu Salomon, shlita, Mashgiach of Bais Medrash Govoha in Lakewood, who participated in the asifah with mesirus nefesh in view of his delicate state of health.
While the purpose of the asifah is to enable the tefillos of tinokos shel beis rabban to bring about refuos and yeshuos for cholei Yisrael and the many others in Klal Yisrael who suffer adversity, the recent spate of tragedies nationwide and globally; including earthquakes in Mexico and hurricanes in Florida and Houston, made this year's gathering even more critical.
A most stirring and unforgettable scene was created by the vast sea of children united in fervent tefillah, their voices loudly reverberating in the huge shul. One can only imagine the impact that these entreaties, coming from these unsullied neshamos, had in Shamayim on behalf of acheinu Bnei Yisrael. The achdus that was manifest since these youngsters hail from various communities surely contributed to the overall success of the event.
The asifah was also connected via telephone hook-up with approximately 130 communities around the world; consequently, tens of thousands of children were davening concurrently, pleading with the Borei Olam to send refuos and yeshuos for Klal Yisrael.
In the past, the transmission has included cities such as Baltimore, Cleveland, Chicago, Dallas, Memphis, Milwaukee, Montreal and Toronto, as well as sites in the states of California, Connecticut, Indiana, Florida, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. Worldwide, it has reached enclaves in London, Manchester, Gateshead and locations in Holland, as well as in Mexico City and sites in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama and Venezuela.
It was also transmitted via the Kol Mevaser phone line. Numerous Yidden, wherever they were, paused to recite perakim 13, 20, 79, 121, 130 and 142 of Tehillim at the same time as the asifah was taking place. All who participated gleaned much hisorerus and inspiration from the event that they hope will bring, b'ezras Hashem, many yeshuos.
